Ardakan Rugs

Ardakan

ARDAKAN Rugs from the town of the same name, which  in Persian means "Holy Place" or "Clean Place" lies in the centre of Iran in the province of Yazd and being by the Salt Desert makes it well placed as a leading Camel rearing centre,it is more renown for its rug and carpet weaving which being close to Nain is to be expected. It is not from Nain that these rugs take their influance, using Asymetrical knots with a typical knot count of 120 Knots per square inch they take motifs more akin to Kashan and give them a more rural feel and handle that can be more acceptable in modern less formal interiors .The particular one illustrated is quite unique in its fine weave and is closer in style to a Kashan which gives an insight into the more mobile nature of the weavers of the modern times, with  even cross national border migrations of the native weavers in some cases due to war or natural disaster
